Fantastic Beasts at Fountaindale

Fantastic-Beasts-HP-sm

Greetings, witches and wizards! You better be getting your wands ready for the release of the new Harry Potter prequel film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on November 18th! Set in 1920s New York City, the story follows Mr. Newt Scamander (played by Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne), the eventual author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which Harry Potter and his friends will one day use at Hogwarts decades in the future. Newt comes to NYC after being kicked out of Hogwarts himself (why, we wonder??), carrying a suitcase full of fantastical creatures. But somehow the creatures escape and start wreaking havoc in New York…

Sound exciting enough?? To celebrate the release of this highly-anticipated film, Fountaindale is throwing a party! On Saturday, November 12th from 10am to 3pm, the library will have crafts, games, and even host some real-life fantastic creatures! This is an all-ages, drop-in event, and it is sure to be FANTASTIC!

What can you expect at Fountaindale’s event? Here’s a sneak-peak:

  • Check out our Wizard Emporium, where witches and wizards of all ages can “buy” their wizard necessities. Stop by the bank for your wizard dollars, register your wand at the MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) wand registry, pick out the wizarding items of your fancy, and even get your fortune told!
  • Go on a scavenger hunt throughout the library to find Newt Scamander’s missing beasts! Can you find them all? If so, a magical prize awaits you!
  • …and much more! Stay tuned in the coming weeks to find out more about this FANTASTIC event!

Back to the Future

The wait is almost over for Back to The Future fans! October 25, 2015, the exact date Marty McFly traveled through time in Back to the Future Part II is among us! Let the countdown begin to the PRECISE time Marty went back to the future at 4:29PM.

Here are a couple of ways to celebrate this once in a lifetime event.

Wear your pockets inside out.

While people don’t really wear their pants inside out these days (well most of us don’t, or maybe it’s just me?), take some of Doc’s advice and wear your pockets inside out! It’s simple. You just reach inside of your pockets, and pull them out.

Pizza Hut and Pepsi

Have dinner with the family and order a half pepperoni and half green peppers pizza from Pizza Hut. Although it won’t be a dehydrated pizza like in the movie, a fresh and ready to go pizza will suffice.

Pepsi is going Back to the Future (or should I say Present?) and will be releasing a new (EXTREMELY) limited edition collectable bottle (only 6,500 bottles will be made). Aside from it being made with the same Pepsi Formula, it will give you a little taste of the future. This product will be sold for the appropriate price of $20.15, not quite as pricey as the $50 Pepsi Perfect Doc gave to Marty in the film. You can buy your collectors item online, although Pepsi recommends checking out their social media page for the exact locations where you can buy it.

Does it feel like I’m trying to sell these products? I SWEAR I’m not.
MOVING ON.

Watch/Root for the Cubbies!

Ever since the Cubs won the Wild Card game against the Pirates, I’ve been hearing nothing but Back to the Future references. The Cubs won the first round against their rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals and are currently playing against the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series. If they manage to beat the Mets, they will be in the World Series! If the Cubs were to win the World Series they would end their 107 year old drought. This would be be a HUGE celebration to Chicago and all the Cubs fans out there. HOW EXCITING!!! If you’re not a Cubbies or baseball fan watch them anyways! I am a DIE HARD White Sox fan (SOUTH SIDE!) and I will be watching the games. The Cubs are making history, and how cool would it be to say Back to the Future predicted this!

Could this be “the year?”

The hoverboard is finally here!
The hoverboard has been brought to life! Lexus has designed a hoverboard using superconductive magnetic levitation to defy gravity. Although it is not for sale, it will be sold in the near future. Don’t believe me? See it for yourself.

Back to the Future movie marathon

I am a big fan of movie marathons. If you don’t want to watch the Cubs game or perhaps have a lot of free time on the 21st watch the movies all over again! Want to watch the trilogy all over again or perhaps for the first time but don’t have them? Don’t sweat it, the library owns several copies!

Origami Turtles and an Adolescent Amphibious Movie

At the Fountaindale Public Library, the Children’s Services Department will be showing a movie about four adolescent amphibians whose names curiously resemble four Renaissance artists. The movie will take place Saturday in Meeting Room A at 1:30 PM. This movie is a complete blast from the past because it is from the 90s. A re-make of this movie is set for release this week, August 8, 2014. After the movie, everyone will be given the chance create his or her very own origami turtle.
